ABSTRACT

Kathleen A. Hansen and Nora Paul (2004) cite four contributors

for information commonly used by communicators: informal

sources, institutional sources, scholarly sources and journalistic

sources.1 All four can be extremely valuable to a graphics reporter,

and understanding how each can contribute to the development of

a graphic is important. Additionally, a skilled graphics reporter

should be ready to consult books, legal documents, annual reports,

Web sites, newspapers, magazines, experts in the field and even tel-

evision when gathering information for a graphic. With all of these

potential sources in your arsenal, most graphics should come

together pretty efficiently.
