ABSTRACT

This chapter presents types of advanced virtual cameras created for different virtual world projects. The virtual worlds are the diner scene, the Nighthawks installation, and the Aphrodisias project. Although the examples of virtual worlds are set in different contexts and were created for specific audiences, they share similarities in the way they were produced. The Diner project is inspired by a conversation between two characters inside a small bar. The movement of the virtual camera, called the Dialogue camera, follows the intonations of the viewer’s voice or sound level in the physical space of the installation. The camera design can respond to many situations that may arise randomly during a viewer’s interaction with the scene. The chapter also presents several projects designed around the viewer’s experience, with examples of dynamic designs of virtual cameras and sound input or magic wands to control the exploration in a virtual space.
