ABSTRACT

A PUZZLEMENT In terms of interactive media, the DVD is something of a puzzlement. Although they are an enormous hit with consumers, and in spite of becoming the most swiftly adapted electronics platform of all time, very little original entertainment content has been developed for it, almost none of which takes advantage of the interactive potential of the platform. The single major exception to this is video games, a great many of which are distributed on DVD-ROMs. However, games fall into a whole other category of entertainment, and they are programmed for PCs or game consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3, rather than the DVD platform, and thus are not generally thought of as being DVDs.
