ItiswellknownthatsomeoftheintellectualsofBahrainand theGulfusedtowritefortheseinaverylimitedformindeedbefore thedawnofthetwentiethcentury,inthelatterquarterofthe nineteenthcentury.Examplesoftheseinclude:Husseinal-Mandil's letterin1892;andHusseinAlial-Mushrif'sletterin1899.Bothof thesewerewrittenforal-Muqtatafastheyweredealingwithmatters andquestionsrelatingtoreligionandlife.
