ABSTRACT
Thisapproachalsoencouragesdevelopmentofaperiodization paradigm,basedasitisonexplainingindigenousevents,quite differentfromatraditional,politicallyoriented,Western-centric explanationofBahrain'smodemhistory.Theapproachalsotendsto pointtothetwomajorhistoricalphenomenathatarecentralinthe storyoftheriseofamodemBahrain.Theyare,first,thegradual attachmentofBahraintotheworldeconomicorder;and,second,the emergenceofasophisticated,modem,yetdistinctivelyBahraini,oilrelatedserviceeconomyanditsaccompanyingurbanbasedsociety.
