TheexcavationsoftheMetropolitanMuseumatthetwotombsofSenenmut,Theban tomb71ontopofSheikhAbdelQumaandtomb353underthefunerarytempleof HatshepsutatDeirelBahri,havealreadybeenbrieflymentioned. 1InChapter1it hasbeenshownhowthediscoveryofthelattertombbyHerbertWinlockin1927 ledtohisreinterpretationoftheTuthmosidesuccession,amoredetailedexplanation ofthereasonsforSenenmut'spersecution,and--onthebasisofanostracon--a suggesteddatefortheconstructionoftomb353beginninginyear16ofTuthmosis illandHatshepsut.Inaccordancewiththestatedgoalsofattemptingtoestablishthe chronologicalmilestonesofHatshepsut'sreign,thepurposeofthischapterwillbe toconsiderthedegreetowhichtheostracondatedtoyear16canbeusedasa reliableindicatorofrelativechronologyinthecoregencyofTuthmosisilland Hatshepsut;thesecondwillbetoexaminethearchitectureofSenenmut'stombsin relationtothatofhiscontemporaries.
