OneofthemosteffectivereformsduringtheOccupationyears wasineducation,wheretherewasatransitionfromtheold JapanesesystemtoanewAmerican-inspiredmodel.Inthischapter,weshallevaluateitseffectonthetrainingofscientistsand engineers.Fromthelate1950s,theindustrialsectordemanded anincreaseinscientificmanpower.WeshalltracehowJapan copedwithsuchdemands.
