The Development of Trade Unions

This chapter is a very short summary of the development of trade unions in Britain, and goes on to examine the role of the different parties involved in collective bargaining. Our intention here is to set out the history of trade unions only in relation to three main areas: trade unions and the law; the political consciousness of trade unions in the UK; and the main changes that have occurred in unionization.
