ABSTRACT

Drawing on an international socialization perspective, this chapter aims at con-tributing to understanding China's changing identity in the global order, through a study of the evolution of its behavior in one international forum, the World Trade Organization (WTO), and in particular, in the WTO dispute settlement system. The argument is made that China's more active participation in the WTO dispute settlement system since 2007 signals a critical change in its general attitude toward international adjudication, and in turn, in its identity as a law-abiding member of the global community.
