ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the methods by which foreign workers enter Japan. The first section takes a general look at the important role played by job brokers, and the second discusses the trainee system, which is certain to grow in the future. The third briefly examines the situation of shugakusei (an immigration category of foreign students in language and technical schools) and Japanese language schools. The role of brokers who work exclusively in the entertainment industry will not be treated here, but will be dealt with later, in Chapter 2-1.
