ABSTRACT

There was certainly close contact with Egypt and it is the finding of characteristic and well known Egyptian objects in A-Group graves that has made it possible to date the culture and to define different periods during which there were changes in the indigenous Nubian material. These periods have been named Early, Classic and Terminal and the dates given to them depend mainly on cross-dating made possible by the presence of a considerable number of Egyptian objects of known dates in A-Group contexts, mainly in graves and consisting largely of pottery.
