ABSTRACT
Thehoubara(Chlamydotisundulata)isamedium-sizedbustard ofslenderappearance,measuring55-65em.andhavingawingspanof135-170em.Thegeneralcolourofthehoubaraissandy buff,spottedwithblackishvermiculationsallovertheupper body.Theneck,sidesofthefaceandearcovertsarepalesandy buff,withablackstripepatterncreatedonbothsidesofthe neckbyelongateddisplayfeathers(Plate2.1).Theunderparts,in contrast,aremainlywhite.Inflight,itswingsexhibitablackand whitepattern.Thebodymassofadultbirdsincaptivityvaries from1,200to2,400g.inmalesandfrom1,100to1,700g.in females.
