ABSTRACT

The practicality of American thought continues in the ideas of contemporary philosophers who work in moral, social, and political philosophy on individualism and community, American feminist ethics, and African American philosophy. Representing the last six decades of American philosophy, the philosophers discussed in this chapter share concerns about and offer solutions to problems of social justice and political ideals. Their ideas range from libertarian to communitarian, from assimilationist to separatist, and from philosophies of justice to philosophies of love.
