ABSTRACT

The graduate program Studies of the Future at the University of Houston- Clear Lake was founded in 1975. Far from starting a trend, US colleges may actually have fewer futures courses today although interest around the world may be growing. In the meantime, the UHCL futures program has developed an approach to prepare its graduates for professional practice. It employs many of the emerging innovations in education: combining school with work, suiting the curriculum to student schedules, and teaching to a prescribed set of outcomes. It has also distilled a futures perspective suitable for general education at many colleges and universities.
