ABSTRACT

The chapter describes a health education initiative in a community in Jamaica. The project had three main components: co-operative farming, latrine construction and health education. The work of the project included collection of baseline data about the community, identification of problems, development of inter-personal skills and latrine construction. The outcomes of the project are described as are future plans. The difficulties faced by the project are outlined. Some of these were to do with perceptions and attitudes of those involved. Others were of a very practical nature. The lessons learned from the project are described.
