ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a health education initiative which took place in schools near Verona between 1978 and 1981. The geographical, social, economic and cultural contexts are described. A model was devised through which the school medical service could bring about health education. The intervention had four stages: increasing the sensitivity of those responsible for the schools medical service; creating sensitivity to health care problems in pupils, teachers, non–teaching staff and parents; inter–systemic planning and verification of the outcomes.
