ABSTRACT

In the last decade, the scope and purpose of health education in Finland has widened from being just about health care. Many sectors and groups are involved. Particular foci for funding are smoking and alcohol education. Many voluntary bodies are active in health education and have numerous links with the authorities. The activities of the voluntary bodies are co–ordinated by the Finnish Council for Health Education. Health education is part of the school curriculum. Trends in health education are tracked by a variety of methods. Evaluated research is increasing. Particular projects of a very diverse nature are described in this chapter.
