ABSTRACT
Safeguarding an architectural heritage is generally considered one of the fruits of Western
civilization. It has emerged from the Western view of history, from the West’s links with
its own past, from the role and significance of Western monuments within a given
environment, from Western artistic sensibility and ethical values.
