ABSTRACT

The review starts with the emergent demand on educational research to enable education to catch up with progress in other fields, leading to statements on what educational research ought to do in this direction. The main agencies supporting and sponsoring research in India are described. Reviews of educational research in India are then discussed, classifying studies into 20 categories and briefly evaluating work in each of these areas. The main shortcomings of educational research studies in India are enumerated and encouraging trends are identified. The review concludes with an assessment of the future of educational research.
