ABSTRACT

Village polytechnics were begun in 1966 as an experimental measure to meet the problem of training young people to play constructive roles in the tasks of rural development. They were created in answer to the recogtion in Kenya, now clear in so many developing countries, that however rapidly the modern industrial commercial sector expands, for some time to come it is the exploitation of the agricultural potential and the improvement of the rural areas that must lie at the base of any effective national development and employment strategy.
