ABSTRACT

The present city of Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1560 A.D., although recent archaeological excavations have discovered the existence of an ancient city dating back to 2000 B.C. Udaipur is situated in the southernmost part of the present State of Rajasthan. Before the merger of the native states into the Indian Union, it was the capital of Mewar. It is still an administrative, economic and social centre of Southern Rajasthan.
