ABSTRACT

Japanese management style has been influencing other management cultures. Many organizational behaviour textbooks make reference to ‘Theory Z’ (Ouchi 1981) and other works about Japanese management style (e.g. Altman et al. 1985, Davis and Newstrom 1985, Dessler 1983, DuBrin 1984). Researchers have found some unique things about Japanese management in the relationships between each worker, and between managers and other groups. Examples of these are ‘Individual Responsibility’, ‘Control systems that are less formal’, and ‘Consensus decision making’.
