ABSTRACT

In this chapter we examine the internationalization strategies of small and medium-sized enterprises originating from emerging or transitional countries (EM-SME). We were prompted to pursue this inquiry by the opportunity to naturally extend existing developments regarding born global enterprises and by anecdotal evidence pointing to an increase in activity of SMEs from emerging markets wishing to expand into mature markets. SMEs are the lifeblood of many emerging economies and their successful expansion can bring economic growth to their home countries.
