ABSTRACT

Being in recovery means giving up addiction, not giving up sex. Sex is great. It’s fun, exciting, exhilarating, relaxing, romantic, intimate, erotic and esteem building. What’s more, research suggests that it’s good for our emotional and physical health as well as for our relationships (Whipple, 2003). Unfortunately, this is not true of all sex, as those who’ve suffered from sex addiction and previous chapters of this book testify. But ‘good’ sex brings with it many benefits and like healthy relationships that we looked at in the previous chapter, a satisfying sex life is one of the most powerful relapse prevention strategies available.
