ABSTRACT

Baxter was a highly respected-nonconformist clergyman, best known for ‘The Saints Everlasting Rest’ (1650) and ‘The Holy Commonwealth’ (1659). These remarks on Herbert occur in his address to the reader of his ‘Poetical Fragments’, within the context of an expeditious survey of some of his favourite literary works.
