ABSTRACT

Thompson’s most important tribute to Herbert was written as a review of A. G. Hyde’s biography (No. 67). It is not a commentary on Herbert’s poetry, but the tribute of a fellow-poet who recognises the ‘conflict’ at the core of ‘The Temple’ and the life of its author. See also above, p. 32.
