ABSTRACT

Of the several essays published in 1933 apropos the tercentenary of Herbert’s death and the initial appearance of ‘The Temple’, only the ensuing one by Basil de Selincourt merits one’s attention now. An energetically articulated essay, it is especially noteworthy because of its recognition of Herbert’s ‘precision’, ‘technical playfulness’, and ‘magical surprises’.
