ABSTRACT
Malaysia today is emulating the nations of the world and competing with the newly industrializing countries in the South-East Asian Region to fast grow into a fully industrialized economy by the year 2020. Yet many questions remain unanswered as to the modus operandi for attaining growth with development in the light of the internal and external assumptions of social, political and economic responsibilities that Malaysia will need to comprehend in her menu of change. This is a challenge that is not necessarily faced by the other newly industrializing countries. What vests this responsibility on Malaysia is her unique position as a nation and society in both the Muslim world and the total globalizing environment. There is thus an apparent push and pull between the interests of Malaysia towards optimally realizing an internal growth in the globalizing environment through interactions with the world seen as a homogeneous entity. Then there is the need for her diversion to the Muslim world with a conscious focus.
