ABSTRACT

February 1940, pp. 106 ff

John Pick (1911–?80) was Professor of English at Boston College 1939–41, and later a Professor at Marquette.

This was the second of two articles (which appeared in successive numbers) relating Hopkins’s poetry to his Jesuit life and background. Only the opening is reprinted here; Pick’s work on Hopkins appeared in book form in 1942 as Gerard Manley Hopkins, Priest and Poet, which is still in print.
