ABSTRACT

5 April 1919, pp. 420–2

The author of this lengthy and discriminating article was Fr Geoffrey Bliss, SJ (1874–1952), an ex-pupil of Stonyhurst and a teacher in Jesuit schools, who later became editor of a devotional magazine. His obituary (Our Dead, Manresa Press, 1954–6, p. 336) described him as a poet ‘of no mean order’ and a ‘discerning critic’ with a special interest in Hopkins, but he published little. The Tablet had been an important Catholic weekly since the previous century.
