Clement Barraud (1843–1926) was educated at Stonyhurst, entered the Society of Jesus in 1862, and studied at St Mary’s Hall and St Beuno’s with Hopkins. In the Journal, Hopkins wrote that on 8 October 1874 he walked with Barraud over to Holywell where they bathed, ‘and returned very joyously’ (2nd edn, p. 261). Barraud later worked in the West Indies, returning to be Spiritual Father at St Beuno’s in 1910.
