Morris Schappes, b. 1907 in the Ukraine, came to the USA in 1914, and taught in the English Department of the City College of New York from 1928.
The Symposium was a critical review published at Concord, New Hampshire, 1930–3. Like Hound and Horn (see No. 61) its tone and approach were much influenced by Eliot’s Criterion. This review is of Poems, 2nd edn, and Lahey.
