ABSTRACT

The twin aims of teaching and research underscored the foundation of the LSTM. The preceding chapters have made only passing reference to the teaching activities of the School in Liverpool. Chapter 5 discussed the export of the School as a combined teaching and research model to Thailand and the example that Liverpool presented for British policies of overseas assistance through higher education in the 1950s and 1960s. This chapter reviews the early teaching in Liverpool, the special wartime courses and the additional technical teaching for nurses. After 1945, teaching had a greater impact on tropical medicine as practised from Liverpool.
