Mr Gissing's new book comes as a most delightful surprise to his friends. We knew him as a student of the dreary streets of outer London, and we realised that in him we had a charming writer of stories, an expert novelist, whose latest book was sure ofa ready welcome; but there was hardly one ofus who was able to appreciate Mr Gissing that had anticipated a book of travel such as this one from his pen.
