ABSTRACT

Do the Poles like living under camera surveillance? The simple answer appears to be a resounding yes. Video surveillance cameras seem ubiquitous in Poland—not just in the big, urban agglomerations like the capital Warsaw, but also in towns and villages; and their number seems to be constantly on the rise. This development does not appear to be simply a result of an elite-driven, top-down campaign; in Poland, video surveillance of public places seems to enjoy tremendous popular support (Gniadek 2009).
