ABSTRACT

And the red bile maketh hot the liver and stomach, and produceth digestion, and by means of its pungency (or, acidity) it stimulateth the expulsion of urine and of the faecal matter; and it openeth the pores of the skin, and reduceth the superfluity of the body by means of the sweat thereof. The power of the red bile is hot and dry, and its taste is bitter, and it hath three colours, namely, red, yellow, and green.
