The"YoshiwaraZatsuwa"1iW.lt~statesthatthere wereinAgeya-machi,besidesthe"Ageya"themselves, eighteentea-housestowhichpersonsrepairedforthepurpose ofwatchingthetayuenteringthevarious"ageya."According totheregulationsoftheYoshiwarainancienttimes,theconstructionoftsuki-age-do(shutterswhichslideupintoagroove abovethewindow,likeshop-shutters)inthewindowsofthe secondstoriesofthesehouseswaspermitted,whereasitwas prohibitedinanyotherpartofthekuru1va.Inthetea-houses inNaka-no-cho,latticeworkdoorswereusedintheirupper floors.Itisstatedthatoriginallyonlythecentralportionof theYoshiwaraleadingfromAgeya-machiwascalledNaka-nocho,theotherportionsbeingnamedYedo-chodivision,Kyomachidivision,etc.AccordingtoanoldresidentofAgeyamachi,Naka-no-chowasformerlyamalgamatedwithAgeyamachiowingtothenumberofofficialsbeingsmallinthe formerstreet,andaboutthattimetherewasafireman'sensign (matoi)inexistenceinAgeya-machibearingthecharacter+ ("Naka"),clearlyshowingtheconnectionbetwE)enthewards.
