TheYoshiwara0-kagami(~_PJ{:;k~)saysthatthegomg abroadofprostituteswasprohibitedatthefoundingofthe Yoshiwara,andonlytayuwereoccasionallyallowedtoattend theHyo-jo-sho(SupremeCourt)towaitonofficials.
Inthecaseofa"joro"beingsummonedbeforethe "machibugyo"shewasaccompaniedbytwowakaimono,the masterofthebrothel,fivewardsmen("go-nin-gumi")arepresentativeofthe"nanushi"andher"ya1·ite."Thelatter madeasmallpresenttotheattendantsofthe"bugyo"that theymightspreadamatforthe"Joro"tositon,andthe "Joro"remainedsilentwhilethe"yarite"answeredthe questionsofthejudge.
