Theprocession,orpromenade,ofyU;johasbeenconsideredas,parexcellence,themostsplendidspectacleandimportant ceremonyoftheYoshiwara.Onceintheearlieryearsof Me~ji,andonceagainin1887,whenthecherry-blossoms wereinfullbloom,thiswonderfulprocessiontookplace,but sincethennoattempthasbeenmadetorevivethetimehonouredcustom.Evenonthetwooccasionsreferredto,the affairwasnotcarriedoutinstrictaccordancewiththeancientstyle,butinafarsimplerfashion.
