ABSTRACT
Earlier chapters have focused upon the tutors and examiners as sources of assessment. In this chapter the focus is primarily upon the students as assessors - with a little help from tutors. The chapter considers peer and selfassessment, their advantages and limitations and the role of self-assessment in learning to learn. We offer some suggestions for introducing and using selfassessment and peer-assessment in courses. The next chapter considers some of the approaches often used in conjunction with self-assessment.
