ABSTRACT

The paper that follows is not the one I set out to write. When I heard Nicole Rafter talk about her new translation of Lombroso's La donna delinquente, and was told that this would include the sexological chapter that had been left out of the old translation, I thought I could put the proto-lesbians in Lombroso's text in the context of the history of sexual discourses and thus make a contribution to the collective enterprise.
