ABSTRACT

This chapter assumes that you that you are shooting single camera. This means that you are only shooting with one camera rather than with several cameras. In TV, dramas can be shot single camera but can also be shot in a studio with multiple cameras at the same time. A lot of sit coms are shot this way. There will be a number of cameras positioned around the studio space. The director may be on the studio floor but may also sit in a separate gallery and watch the shots on a bank of screens; sometimes they will split their time; they will block the action from the floor but then go into the gallery to rehearse and record. The shots are all rehearsed and chosen in advance. As the scene is played, a vision mixer will change the shots which are being recorded and at the end of the shoot the piece will emerge more or less edited. This method saves time because there are several cameras getting all the different shots at the same time.
