ABSTRACT

THE day I left Bahrain Major Dickson told me that the High Commissioner, Sir Percy Cox, will soon leave Baghdad and is expected to arrive in a few days; and when I got to Ojair I learned from Saiyed Hashem that the Sultan would soon ride out of AI-Hasa to meet the High Commissioner. I looked up in my map, therefore, the distance between AI-Hasa and Ojair-40 miles-and comparing between a ride of twenty hours in two days (for I would certainly have to return with the Sultan) and a rest of two days to prepare me for the long desert journey, I decided on the latter and wrote to His Highness that in crossing I had slept two nights in the jalbout. But if he desire me to come to him or to wait for him where I am, I am in either case ready :-to hear is to obey.
