ABSTRACT

To Kuwait! There is nothing in the two words, if you are not in the heart of Arabia, to justify any fear or apprehension. Suppose you are in Bombay and Kuwait is your destination; under the usual circumstances, peace will accompany you on a steamer tolerably equipped with the means of comfort and security. And if you were in Iraq and you said: Kuwait, steam will again respond to your call and carry you on wheels from Baghdad to Basrah, where a ship will take you down Shat 'ul-' Arab, -affording you through either of its banks a glimpse of Paradise-and bring you to a cove in the Gulf, which was carved out by the hand of time and to which have quietly strayed the sea and man.
