Chapter 4 suggested that one strength of the holistic model was the internal consistency with which it linked individuals, interpersonal relations and social phenomena. One test of a model is to examine the viability of its inverse. If after exhaustive brainstorming no alternative interpretation emerges, the original interpretation can be said to stand as the only candidate and to have a certain attractiveness, if only by default.
