ABSTRACT
The Aims of Punishment ONE might reasonably expect that the objects of punishment would be clearly recognized and rigidly defined. The fact that responsible law-makers and penologists are by no means in agreement on this important matter suggests one of the main shortcomings of the modern method of dealing with crime, as it has similarly suggested the failings of all methods which have been practised in the past.
