ABSTRACT

A PROMISING part of Egypt was that south of Asyut, as there were important inscriptions of the Middle Kingdom at Dronkeh, which Griffith had copied. I therefore applied for this district. But before that there was a short work to be done at the south side of Gizeh where some great mastabas stood, which were not already taken in concessions. This year my wife was detained in England, and our last year's men were none of them continuing in the work. So I started with Mackay, Ward of Edinburgh, Rhoades and Gregg.
