ABSTRACT

By NOVEMBER 28, 1911, we were again in Cairo; this year's students were Mackay, Wainwright, Engelbach, Elverson, and for some weeks Lawrence-brightest of companions-little dreaming of his Arabian fame. In view of the importance of Middle Egypt, it seemed more desirable to work over the country from Cairo southward, rather than to take up distant places which involved time in travelling. For this purpose, I had finished what was yet unoccupied land at Gizeh.
