ABSTRACT

When the idea for this book first came about in 2006, the worlds of sports and entertainment and marketing were intertwined, but not to the level that they are today. In looking back after the first edition was published in 2007, the predictions we made have come true, but no one could have envisioned the explosion of social media, or how quickly sport on a global scale would be adapted, or how fast gaming has become part of the culture. Evolutionary moves in sport that used to take weeks or months or years now take place in minutes; heroes are crowned, careers changed, new ideas brought to market faster than ever before, hopefully with additional practices to come. For those of you who enjoyed the first edition of the book, thank you. For those who are new, welcome. For those who provided more input in best practices, your help is appreciated. This new updated edition won’t really break that much with the best practices of the past. It is aimed more to take the new trends in social and digital media, expanded crisis management, the increased global look at sport (especially with the role of women), and bring those pieces to light, combined with even more best practices seen over the past few years. As you may also know, when we finished the first edition of this book, I was encouraged to start a blog, which I did, and it was hoped that the blog would be a living and breathing update to the text. I hope that the site joefavorito.com has done that and will continue to do so.
