ABSTRACT

A NTHROPOLOGISTS, sociologists, and historians have been most zealous in their efforts to show that similar ideas are common to man in all parts of the world ; nor would it be too much to say that this similarity in mental manifesta­ tions in societies culturally different has been the starting point of all those who have wished to trace the evolution of civilization, including especially such specific developments as those of material culture, art, religion, social organization, and other phases of culture.
